5 ways to ensure your Clip-ins blend seamlessly

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

Since suffering with psoriasis and having my babies, my hair has never recovered! I've tried potions and lotions, vitamins and shakes but the truth is I am not destined to have an abundance of hair. For many years, I've used real hair clip in hair extensions to help my hair look fuller and make me more confident. If you're looking to invest in some, here are my top tips to ensure they blend with your natural hair.

1. Buy Real Hair

Sounds obvious but so many people are put off by the higher price and end up buying synthetic hair. You need real hair so that it mimics your own natural hair and so that you can style it. If you look after your clip ins properly, they will last for months!

2. Dye the Extensions

For a completely seamless look, if you dye your natural hair, then also dye your extensions. The downside is you may need to change your style less frequently if you intend on using your extensions on a daily basis. The upside is you don't need to worry about buying the exact same colour extensions as your real hair. If you never change your hair colour, you will only need to dye them once.

3. Get the Extensions cut

When you receive your hair extensions, take them to your hairdressers and ask them to cut your hair with the extensions clipped in. This way, the length will match your hair and you won't get chunky lengths of hair that stand out.

4. Don't use too many Wefts

Most hair extensions will come with at least 6 wefts. I know you will be tempted to try and clip in as many as physically possible! However, if you have thin hair like me, adding 6 wefts can feel uncomfortable, look obvious and be hard to conceal. I usually wear 3 wefts on a normal day. I know they will stay covered so I won't be worrying about anyone seeing the clips and I don't end up with a headache!

5. If it's a windy day, pin or tie your hair back

Just because it's raining or windy, it doesn't mean you have to forgo your extensions. On these days, clip in your extensions as usual but either pin the front of your hair back to cover the top layer of extensions, or tie your hair into a chic low ponytail!
